Today's News - ENVIRONMENT: Some forests thrive

Europe and North America counter the global trend of forest loss

Planet earth is losing more than 50,000 square kilometres of forest a year and with it both biodiversity and the capacity to store carbon emissions that are fuelling global warming, the UN Foord and Agriculture Organization warns. But the forests of Europe, Central Asia and North America, it seems, are growing at a healthy pace.
