Success as baby gorilla is born at UK wildlife conservation centre
Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust is celebrating after the
birth of a baby gorilla. Too cute for words. But also an important part of the
charity’s conservation efforts helping the world’s most endangered species to
survive. Based in Jersey in the Channel Islands, Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust announced the new
arrival of the healthy baby western lowland gorilla a few days ago to mother:
Hlala Kahilli and father: Badongo. The baby remains stuck to its mum for the time being.
Western lowland gorillas are listed as critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN).
Unsurprisingly Mark Brayshaw, Head of Animal Collection at Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, described the importance of the birth as “a great success for Durrell”.
It's especially an achievement for the charity’s breeding programme supporting these critically endangered primates. Congratulations to Durrell and also to parents Hlala and Badongo.
